LETTER from BABAJI: Power of Prayer

Master Christ Jesus Praying in Garden of Gethsemane
“Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray. And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." Matthew 26 KJV

Dearest Babaji:
How powerful are our prayers? Can our prayers really influence somebody's spiritual progress, or is it just up to that person? It is said that Tulsi Devi protected Her husband just by praying for him. Is it also possible for [the] so-called "normal" human being? Can we protect those we love by praying for them, even if they are not so much into spirituality?

Mahavatar Kriya Babaji:
Dear Ones: It is true that time allows for human beings to know and to incorporate prayer and the understanding of prayer into their daily lives. For time out of mind, man has wallowed in the excesses of human behavior from the standpoint of selfishness, isn’t it? The Divine has designed a way out of the concentration of human beings on themselves through the process of prayer for others. Once the heart is opened to Divine Love, and that person follows through in his sadhana practices, prayer becomes a “way of life” for him/her, see? Those who pray become aware of the energy that comes as a natural divine process of prayer.

It is said, “The family who prays together, stays together.” How can all this be, you may ask? You may have perceived that some are healed and some are not healed when one prays for others. In the Christ’s words, prayer can be comprehended as he gave the divine example. He happily was facing the crucifixion for he well knew his dharma. Yet Christ prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane to “show mankind the way”: “Father, not my will, but thy will be done.” Christ gave the higher teaching in that example of prayer. Take Christ’s example of prayer to heart and your prayers will be elevated and lifted into alignment with the Divine.

You have an excellent example of the power of prayer with your teacher, Swami Vishwananda. Many reports of healing have been reported all over the world from people for whom he has prayed. When people ask him for healing, he says: “I will pray for you.” He also says that he does not heal and that it is God who heals. (See the book, Blossoming Of The Heart). The Master Christ said: “If ye have the faith of a mustard seed, you may move a mountain.” Hanuman, the devotee of Rama, an incarnation of Lord Shiva himself, knew and taught mankind about that, didn’t he? Without faith nothing happens, for it is the very foundation of energy movement. “What a man thinketh, so is he!” If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right!

You ask: It is said that Tulsi Devi protected Her husband just by praying for him. Is it also possible for [a] so-called "normal" human being? Can we protect those we love by praying for them even if they are not so much into spirituality?

Sincere prayer that is aligned with Divine Will is never fruitless, for energy is never deleted but continues on and changes form constantly. Remember that you are in linear time as you understand time. Therefore, your prayers may take “some time” to be answered. The Divine responds to all prayer. Remember that in All Time your prayer may be answered in another lifetime or in the so-called future of the present lifetime. So patience and faith must be cultivated for prayer to become a “way of life” for anyone. Why? You will not be faithful and patient with prayer, and you will stop praying for others without faith and patience, isn’t it? Although prayer can be a conundrum, a puzzle and a mystery, it is one of the most powerful tools, or energy aspects, your Creator has provided for the unity of the whole of mankind and Mother Earth. Excellent questions!

May your life be filled with prayer, meditation and life-giving energy to your fellowman of that known as Divine Unconditional Love thereby creating Unity Consciousness. -Babaji
